COALITION OF FAMILIES OF KOREAN & COLD WAR POW/MIAs
|
|
The Coalition of Families is an organization
that works to promote the fullest possible accounting
for American servicemen who remain missing from the Korean and
Cold Wars. Our members are all families of these men. Together,
we not only assist each other in our individual searches for information,
but we help to shape the nature and extent of the U.S. Government's
effort to account for our missing loved ones.
|
|
The Coalition's leaders are experienced in the work at hand.
We have been involved for years in the Full Accounting effort,
and we have well established relationships with government
officials, other family groups, and veterans organizations.
We have extensive experience dealing with media, whose support
for a full accounting is essential. We are up-to-date on the
many issues that affect the accounting process, and we maintain
a presence in Washington to enhance the efforts of the collective
POW/MIA community.
|
|
The Coalition is structured to emphasize responsive leadership,
accountability to members, and a delegation of responsibility
to members who are willing and able to work. Ours is a cooperative
effort, with an open exchange of information. Members are neither
required nor expected to work. Membership in this organization
means different things to different people. Some join to
receive information; some want to become actively involved in
the accounting effort; others just want to support the Cause.
Whatever your level of involvement, all families are welcome.
|
|
Members receive the Coalition's UPDATE & REVIEW, a quarterly
publication that shares helpful information and keeps members
informed of developments in the full accounting effort.
The UPDATE & REVIEW posts "getting started" information for
people just beginning their search. It highlights significant
information from DPMO's weekly updates; reports Congressional
activity; and discusses developments in the Administration's
key foreign policy initiatives. It also announces important
archival discoveries and passes along information from veterans
groups.
|
|
The Coalition has fax and e-mail "trees" for members who want
interim notices and announcements. Our UPDATE & REVIEW gives members
more frequent and often more in-depth
updates and analysis. Our e-mail address is
mail@coalitionoffamilies.org.
|
|
The Coalition of Families has a flexible agenda. We address
ongoing projects, as well as new issues that arise. Some of
the things that we currently are working on include indentification of
the 1000+ sets or partial sets of Korean War remains that are buried or stored in Hawaii;
widespread declassification of Korean and Cold War era documents;
modification of this country's foreign policy as it pertains to China,
Russia, North Korea and other relevant countries that have yet to fully
cooperate on the POW/MIA accounting; and increased awareness and
involvement by Congress relative to Korean and Cold War
POW/MIA issues. We welcome input and assistance from members
on all issues pertaining to our missing men.
|
|
There is much work to be done and we believe that the best
way to make progress is by working together and sharing information.
An active and vocal POW/MIA community has driven the accounting
effort. The families will continue to take their rightful place
as leaders on this issue. Our on-going objective is a productive
and cooperative effort on behalf of our missing men, and
the families they left behind.
|
|
We invite families of our POW/MIAs to contact us for more
information, or a membership application which contains instructions
for joining. Others in the POW/MIA community are welcome to become
Associate members of the Coalition of Families if they wish
to receive our newsletter.
