Reaching Beyond DPMO (Part 1˝)

By: Richard Downes

In the last issue of the Coalition’s newsletter, I began a series of articles outlining my plan to initiate an ongoing dialogue about the MIA issue with the local office for each of my elected officials. The idea was to add their voice in Congress while providing the tools for other interested family members to pursue their officials. If you recall, I also mentioned how daunting this project can be. It is office work, basically … phone calls, research, setting up meetings, following up …time consuming and as uninspiring as it is necessary.

This second article in the series is really just a rewrite because I’ve only gotten as far as a phone call … to one congressman. It was a good call; the assistant was welcoming, open to my coming in but wanted a letter informing them about the issue ahead of time. Arg. This is a perfectly reasonable request. It is also the most daunting part of the process. Researching and summarizing the issue is not easily done; yet is quite easily put off. The writing is underway, though. Once finished and put together as a packet, we’ll be in-like-Flynn. Hopefully, this will be by the next issue. Until then, send all of your inspiration my way. Thank you.
