Why You Should Support House Resolution 103?
First, what is House Resolution 103? How did it come about, and how can it help families of those
of us who are still missing loved ones?
U.S. Representative Peter King introduced this House Resolution in February of 2003. The purpose
of the House Resolution 103 is to form a committee titled “Select Committee on POW and MIA Affairs.”
This committee’s function according to Sec 2 of the Resolution is: “to conduct a full investigation
of all unresolved matters relating to any United States personnel unaccounted for from the Vietnam era,
the Korean conflict, World War II, Cold War Missions, or Gulf War, including MIA’ and POW’s.”
As you may be aware, a similar committee had been formed through the U.S. Senate, Senate Select Committee
on POW/MIA Affairs formed in 1991, focusing on the concerns that POW’s could still be alive and held
against their will from the Vietnam War. House Resolution 103 is much more inclusive, with the intention
to inquire in a more thorough manner in order to resolve the many unanswered questions about missing
loved ones.
As of this printing there are only 48 co-sponsors of this resolution. Fortunately, my U.S. Representative
has signed on, but many from Pennsylvania have yet to follow. It is my plan to contact as many of these
representatives as possible and request their support. It is not my intent to expect each and every one
of you to contact all of your U.S. Representatives, but it would certainly make a difference if each
one of you would ask your own U.S. Representative to co-sponsor House Resolution 103. If you have
internet access, you may go to: www.house.gov/ to find out how
you can contact your U.S. Representative.
If you desire to write to your U.S. Representative, we have provided for you a sample letter format.
We are always informing you, the family members and those concerned that they must speak out for what
they need. It has been said that we have a voice because we have a cause, so let’s exercise that right
and privilege and follow thru with this request.
