As
reported in our last newsletter, House Resolution 103 has been introduced by
U.S. Representative Peter King. The
purpose of this legislation would
provide the appointment of a "Select Committee on POW and MIA
Affairs." According to Section 2
of the Resolution, the committee function is "to conduct a full
investigation of all unresolved matters relating to any United States personnel
unaccounted for from the Vietnam era, the Korean conflict, World War II, Cold
War Missions, or Gulf War, including MIA's and POW's."
Unlike
the previously appointed Senate Select Committee formed by legislation in 1991,
with the focus solely on the Vietnam era, the intention of this committee would
be to inquire more thoroughly than before so that the many unresolved issues
and questions can be answered for those families of soldiers who are still not
accounted for.
Currently,
there are 48 co-sponsors who have signed on.
