Update on House Resolution 103

By: Robin Piacine

As reported in our last newsletter, House Resolution 103 has been introduced by U.S. Representative Peter King.  The purpose of this   legislation would provide the appointment of a "Select Committee on POW and MIA Affairs."  According to Section 2 of the Resolution, the committee function is "to conduct a full investigation of all unresolved matters relating to any United States personnel unaccounted for from the Vietnam era, the Korean conflict, World War II, Cold War Missions, or Gulf War, including MIA's and POW's."

Unlike the previously appointed Senate Select Committee formed by legislation in 1991, with the focus solely on the Vietnam era, the intention of this committee would be to inquire more thoroughly than before so that the many unresolved issues and questions can be answered for those families of soldiers who are still not accounted for.

Currently, there are 48 co-sponsors who have signed on.  If you need to know who your U. S. Representative is, you may access that information at: www.house.gov

To discover if your U.S. Representative has decided to co-sponsor House Resolution 103, you can go to the site on the internet and log onto:

http://thomas.loc.gov.  Click on the Bill Summary and status screen.  Under "bill amendment" or "public Law Number" type H.Res.103.  Click on "text of legislation"

In addition, you have the opportunity to write your U.S. Representative and you may use the sample letter below.   Please take the time to do so, as every effort we make to find answers is important and has meaning.  Remember, it could be your phone call or your letter that could make a difference.
