When the Korean War ended in 1953, there was no accounting for more than 8,100 American servicemen who failed to return home. Additionally, 141 American airmen were lost in various Cold War shoot-downs, without an accounting. Despite compelling evidence that many American POWs were held back alive by the communist countries involved, the United States government has been unable for decades to resolve this issue.
The Coalition of Families is dedicated to the fullest possible accounting for American servicemen missing from the Korean and Cold Wars. We strive to educate members of the government, the worldwide media, and the American public about issues that pertain to the accounting efforts. We will continue our efforts until we obtain a.) the return of all living American POWs from the Korean and Cold Wars; b.) the remains of all American servicemen who died in battle or in captivity during these wars; or c.) an accounting for all missing American servicemen from these wars for whom neither of the above two options is reasonably possible.
